At a distance of approximately 16 km from the capital city of Thiruvananthapuram, Kovalam also offers amazing opportunities of sightseeing in Trivandrum. In and around Kovalam there are various kinds of places which are worth visiting. Some of these are river rafting and boating at Karamana river which is 12 km away, Vellayani Lake which is located almost 7 km away from Kovalam and Valiyathura Pier which is around 10 km away. Edakallu, Kovalam art gallery, Thriuvallam Parashurama temple, Sivagiri monaster and 2000-year-old Janardhana temple at Varkala / Papanasham Beach are few other popular tourist spots.
